His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Khorfakkan, chaired on Thursday the meeting of the University’s Board of Trustees, held at the university’s campus in Khorfakkan. During the meeting, His Highness inaugurated the Sharjah Marine Science Research Center, a pioneering scientific institution dedicated to advancing marine research and environmental sustainability.

The inauguration was attended by H.E. Dr. Amna bint Abdulla Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change & Environment, and H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council and Chancellor of Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies, along with several academic and scientific leaders. The attendees commended the Center’s role in supporting the scientific research ecosystem and advancing marine knowledge, strengthening Sharjah’s position as a global hub for science and innovation.

In his address, His Highness congratulated the city of Khorfakkan and its university on this remarkable achievement, affirming that the new Center will stand among the world’s leading institutions in marine sciences, equipped with advanced technologies, specialized research programs, and qualified scientific teams that will drive innovation and sustainability in the field. His Highness also reaffirmed his ongoing support for the Center and its students to help achieve its mission of advancing scientific research and empowering national talents in this vital sector.

His Highness emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between the Center and other national and international research institutions, as well as hosting specialized conferences and forums to foster knowledge exchange and develop joint projects in marine environment protection, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainability of water resources.

He further underlined the need for applied research with tangible social and environmental impact, praising the academic and research achievements of Khorfakkan University’s faculty and students. His Highness also directed efforts toward expanding the university’s academic programs and introducing postgraduate studies that align with national development priorities, particularly in marine and environmental sciences.

The Board meeting also reviewed several key agenda items, including the performance of academic and administrative committees, the appointment of new academic leaders, and the presentation of the university’s annual institutional performance report outlining major achievements and future initiatives.
