Emirates Scholar Explores Broader Research Cooperation with Friedman Institute in Support of Dialogue & Tolerance

June 19, 2025 – In line with its strategic vision aligned with the UAE leadership’s directives to promote values of tolerance and intercultural understanding, Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies held a high-level meeting with Milton Friedman Institute – Italy, to explore avenues for enhancing intellectual and scientific cooperation and expanding partnerships with European research institutions.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Firas Habbal, President of Emirates Scholar Center and Vice-Chancellor of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Fawaz Habbal, Director-General of Emirates Scholar Center and Board of Trustees Member, along with Mr. Alessandro Bertoldi, President of Milton Friedman Institute.

Discussions covered the outcomes and recommendations from the 2nd edition of the International Dialogue of Civilizations and Tolerance Conference 2025, as well as preparations for the 3rd edition in 2026, which is expected to bring together policymakers, intellectuals, and academics from around the world.

Dr. Firas Habbal emphasized that this meeting reflects the Center’s commitment to building long-term knowledge partnerships with European institutions, highlighting the importance of linking scientific research with human dialogue. He noted that cooperation with the Friedman Institute is a prime example of this approach, reinforcing the Center’s mission of contributing to a more understanding and tolerant world.

Mr. Bertoldi, in turn, praised the UAE’s pioneering role in promoting a culture of moderation and openness. He affirmed that Emirates Scholar is a strategic partner capable of building intellectual bridges between Europe and the Arab world, expressing confidence that this collaboration will yield impactful scientific initiatives that promote peace and dialogue.

The two parties also explored launching joint research programs, academic workshops, and knowledge publishing projects, aimed at facilitating researcher exchange and strengthening the UAE’s contribution to shaping a balanced global discourse responsive to contemporary challenges and committed to an inclusive future.

This meeting falls within the broader efforts of Emirates Scholar to expand its global network and engage with leading think tanks worldwide, supporting the UAE’s position as a central hub for civilizational dialogue, scientific output, and academic cooperation with Europe.
