Abstract

This paper explores the complex issue of catastrophic climate change through the lens of Islamic philosophy. The paper begins by acknowledging the scientific consensus on the anthropogenic causes and devastating consequences of global warming. However, it also examines the perspective offered by Islamic thought, particularly the cyclical view of history and cosmic order as presented in the Rasail Ikhwan al-Safa. While this philosophical tradition posits a cyclical pattern of cosmic change, including alterations in land and sea, the paper argues that this perspective does not negate the urgent need for human intervention to mitigate the current crisis. Drawing on Islamic ethical principles emphasizing environmental stewardship and compassion for all beings, the paper maintains that a harmonious coexistence with the natural world is imperative. Ultimately, this work seeks to contribute to a multifaceted understanding of climate change by bridging scientific, philosophical, and religious perspectives.
