Abstract

Most people think that children with ASD do not need physiotherapy, however research shows different. There seems to be an increasing amount of literature suggesting that children on the Autism Spectrum need physiotherapy treatment due to delay or deficit in gross motor skills. Yet only 1.43% of children with ASD receive physiotherapeutic treatment in Australia and elsewhere the percentage of treatment is not common.
Literature suggests that next to gross motor other skills in children with ASD are impacted. To understand how children with ASD can be helped, different indications for physiotherapy can be given and case studies will be discussed.
