Sultan Al Qasimi Chairs the First Meeting of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education & Scientific Research

Sharjah, United Arab Emirates – May 14, 2025 Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, President of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, chaired the first meeting of the Council, held today at Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi’s residence. The meeting was attended by H.H Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Vice President of the Academy of Police Sciences Council and Deputy President of the Higher Education Council, and H.H Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, along with many university presidents and academic institution leaders in the emirate.
In his opening speech, His Highness emphasized that the establishment of the Council aims to provide institutional and intellectual support for universities and academies in Sharjah, continuing the higher education journey that began in 1997 with the founding of the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah. His Highness stressed that science and knowledge remain the most important tools for achieving sustainable human development.
He also underscored the importance of building strong academic foundations for educational institutions, attracting outstanding academic and administrative talent, and adopting curricula that meet global standards in collaboration with top international universities. His Highness highlighted that faculty members should be selected according to precise criteria to ensure their ability to fulfill their educational and research missions effectively, delivering knowledge in a way that maximizes benefits for students and society.
His Highness expressed his deep personal interest in the educational process, noting that character building and values must take precedence over academic instruction. He added:
“Science knows no borders, colors, or languages. We honor knowledge, we respect its seekers and its teachers, fully aware of its value and its profound impact on societal progress”.
For his part, H.H Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi praised the establishment of the Council, affirming his full commitment, along with all members, to work under the guidance of His Highness the Ruler to elevate the higher education system in Sharjah. He emphasized that the Council will work to strengthen the status of universities and academic institutions and preserve their distinguished academic standing.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Legal Advisor and Head of the Legal Department of the Government of Sharjah, reviewed the legal frameworks governing the Council’s work. He presented the Amiri Decrees regarding the establishment and formation of the Council, as well as the administrative decision related to the formation of the Council’s Permanent Executive Committee.
