UAE commemorates first anniversary of the Federation Era
The United Arab Emirates today marks the first anniversary of “Union Pledge Day”, observed annually on the 18th of July. This national occasion reflects the nation’s deep pride in the federal journey launched by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, and the founding leaders. The commemoration revives the historic moment that paved the way for the foundation of the UAE and the signing of its Constitution in 1971 — the day the name “United Arab Emirates” was officially raised for the first time, heralding the birth of a modern nation now at the forefront of global progress.
The declaration of “Union Pledge Day” as an official national occasion came by the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, may God protect him.
