University of Sharjah and Emirates Scholar Center Discuss the Scientific Research Challenges in the Era of Digital Automation

The University of Sharjah, in collaboration with Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies, organized an online research workshop titled “Scientific Research: Local and International Challenges in the Era of Digital Automation”. The workshop represented a strategic step within the framework of joint efforts to promote constructive scientific dialogue and exchange academic expertise regarding the profound transformations taking place in scientific research amid the rapid development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Firas Habbal, President of Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies, and moderated by Dr. Noura Alkarbi, Research Outreach Department head. It featured in-depth and comprehensive discussions on how digital technologies are influencing traditional research methodologies and the urgent need to adapt quickly to these changes in order to ensure continued development and innovation in the research field, with particular emphasis on research ethics in the digital environment.

The session reviewed several key themes, including an introduction to scientific research in the age of digital automation, an analysis of global research statistics, and the position of the United Arab Emirates on the global research map. It also addressed fundamental challenges facing scientific research, such as the gap between the quantity and quality of research output, funding challenges, attracting and retaining research talent, and the limited Arab presence in international scientific publications.

In this context, Dr. Firas Habbal stated:

“Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies works to support researchers and enhance scientific collaboration between academic institutions in line with the accelerating digital transformations. This comes in light of the strong support that the United Arab Emirates provides for scientific research and innovation by creating a stimulating environment that contributes to knowledge development and the establishment of effective scientific partnerships.”

The workshop was attended by a distinguished group of research students, academics, faculty members, and individuals interested in scientific affairs from various disciplines. Their participation enriched the discussions and provided diverse perspectives on the future of scientific research in the era of the digital revolution.At the conclusion of the workshop, the University of Sharjah honored Dr. Firas Habbal with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions and as an expression of pride in this fruitful academic partnership, with both sides looking forward to further collaboration that will support the advancement of scientific research in the United Arab Emirates and the wider region.
