Emirates Scholar Participates in the 32nd Annual International Law and Religion Symposium in the United States

In continuation of the partnership between the Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Center participated in the 32nd Annual International Law and Religion Symposium, organized by the International Center for Law and Religion Studies at Brigham Young University in Utah, USA, from October 5 to 7, 2025, under the theme: “Regional, National and International Protections of Religious Freedom.”
Representing the Center at this prominent global academic forum was Dr. Firas Habbal, President of the Center and Vice Chancellor of its Board of Trustees, who delivered a keynote address titled “The Role of Scientific Research in Promoting Religious Freedom and Social Cohesion in Arab Societies.” In his remarks, Dr. Firas emphasized the vital role of scientific research in supporting cultural pluralism and building bridges of understanding among nations.
Dr. Fawaz Habbal, Director-General of the Center and Board of Trustees Member, also delivered a lecture titled “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Tolerance: The UAE’s Model in Advancing Religious Freedom and Pluralism,” highlighting the UAE’s pioneering experience in utilizing technology and innovation to foster values of tolerance and openness.

On the sidelines of the symposium, the Emirates Scholar delegation held a meeting with Jeff Ringer, Assistant Vice President for International Relations at Brigham Young University, to discuss prospects for academic and research cooperation between the two institutions. The discussions focused on expanding scientific partnerships and knowledge exchange in the fields of intellectual and human studies. The Center also extended an official invitation to the university to participate in the 3rd International Dialogue of Civilizations and Tolerance Conference 2026, scheduled to take place in April 2026 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Center presented Mr. Ringer with a commemorative trophy in appreciation of his efforts to promote academic collaboration and intercultural dialogue.
The International Law and Religion Symposium is one of the world’s foremost academic platforms, bringing together distinguished scholars, policymakers, and experts from around the globe to discuss key issues related to religious freedom, legal studies, and cross-cultural cooperation. The 32nd edition hosted over 135 speakers from 47 countries and 21,000 participants from more than 100 nations, reflecting its global impact and intellectual significance in advancing mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.
The Emirates Scholar Center affirmed that its participation in this international event underscores the UAE’s leading role in transforming cultural diversity and religious pluralism into a source of knowledge and scientific strength, helping to reinforce the nation’s position as a global platform for dialogue and a bridge between civilizations and cultures.
