SIMA was born in 2015 in Milan, today present with representation in 11 Italian regions and the smaller islands, as well as in Belgium, Austria, Spain, France, Albania, the Principality of Monaco and the USA, known internationally for its commitment to scientific research on the quality of air and water, the epidemiology and costs of pathologies from environmental exposures, the risk of Radon and asbestos and the primary prevention of cancer, especially in the pediatric field, as well as for the original contribution given on the topic air pollution and Covid-19 (we were the first in the world to isolate the genome of the new coronavirus in the atmospheric particulate matter of Bergamo in the weeks before the first lockdown – click HERE for more information). On this important scientific issue linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, SIMA has established an international network of researchers from the most prestigious universities on all continents (called RESCOP and established as an official Commission at the journal Environmental Research, from which a Report also emerged for the European Parliament).
