Abstract

Background: Disasters are increasing in frequency due to climate change. Some groups are disproportionately affected, including persons with disabilities. Disability-inclusive Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction (CCA/DRR) have been developed to address these challenges. Despite the knowledge gained on this topic, important gaps remain in knowledge production, implementation and evaluation. Presentation Objectives: This presentation will map and critically appraise the current situation, practices and evidence related to disability-inclusive Climate Action (DiCA) and Disability inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DiDRR), and investigate the way forward for key stakeholders. Methods: The following elements will be presented to the audience in order to set the stage for the plenary session 5 presentations and discussions: Positionality of the speaker, Global situation of conflicts and other crises, differential Impact on Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), Policy and normative background, Implementation and research gaps, argumentation for the duty to care and the RI Task Force mandate, accomplishments and strategic planning for the future. Dissemination: The dissemination strategy targets practitioner, academic and policy-maker audiences (including persons with disabilities), and includes discussion to generate experience sharing from the participants. Results Excerpts of past, current and future research projects and academic / grey literature will provide important information for practitioners, academics and policy-makers (including persons with disabilities), on the current situation, normative frameworks and implementation of disability-inclusive climate action and disaster risk management interventions.
