H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif Al Nuaimi participates in an international conference in Rome on climate change and crisis management

The delegation of the Sharjah Advisory Council, led by H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Council and Chancellor of Emirates scholar center for research and studies, participated in the international conference on “Climate Change and Natural Disasters in the Euro-Mediterranean Region: Security Impacts and Crisis Management.” The conference was organized by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme in collaboration with the “Med-Or” Foundation and the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The conference took place in Rome, Italy, from November 19 to 21, 2024. The Sharjah Advisory Council delegation, which included Engineer Jamila Al Fandi Al Shamsi, Rashid Abdullah Bin Huwaiden, and Dr. Hind Saleh Al Hajeri, participated in panel discussions that focused on environmental security and the role of civil society in enhancing effective disaster response. The conference also saw the participation of H.E. Abdullah Ali Al Suboosi, UAE Ambassador to Italy. The conference discussed the impact of climate change and natural disasters on regional and international security and stability, and explored advanced strategies for prevention and crisis management. Experts, academics, and diplomats from more than 15 countries were also involved.

During the opening session, H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif Al Nuaimi delivered a speech highlighting the UAE’s pioneering efforts in addressing environmental challenges. He pointed out that the UAE serves as a global model, thanks to its visionary approach that combines promoting sustainability and employing advanced technology, such as satellites and data analysis, to address environmental crises. He also reviewed the country’s efforts in implementing renewable energy projects that contribute to mitigating the impacts of climate change.

The conference focused on several key issues, including crisis management strategies for environmental disasters through adopting modern technology and using satellites, the security impacts of natural disasters on communities and infrastructure, the need for proactive plans to mitigate their effects, and international cooperation to address environmental and climate challenges in the Mediterranean region. It also emphasized the importance of enhancing international collaboration in environmental innovation, developing proactive crisis management plans, and leveraging modern technology in data analysis and natural disaster management.

The participation of the Sharjah Advisory Council delegation underscored the UAE’s leadership role in addressing environmental crises and the importance of strengthening collective efforts to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif Al Nuaimi emphasized the significance of participating in international conferences discussing environmental and climate issues, noting that climate change and natural disasters represent global challenges that require collective action and international coordination to control.
