The 2nd International Dialogue of Civilizations & Tolerance Conference Concludes Its Second Day

The Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies successfully concluded the second day of the 2nd International Dialogue of Civilizations & Tolerance Conference, held under the patronage of H.E Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. The conference, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, took place from February 19 to 21, under the theme “Empowering Youth for a Tolerant Future”.
The Conference witnessed broad participation from leading academics, experts, policymakers, and religious leaders from across the Arab region and the international community. Key discussions and panel sessions focused on promoting tolerance, fostering interfaith and intercultural coexistence, and strengthening dialogue among nations to address global challenges. Additionally, the conference explored youth empowerment and identity preservation in the face of globalization.
Empowering Youth and National Identity in a Globalized World
One of the key discussions of the day was the session titled “Youth and Future-Making: The Role of National Identity and Inclusion in Building a Sustainable Society.” The panel featured prominent speakers, including H.E Dr. Ashraf El Shehhi, former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E. Nasser Al Yammahi, Executive Director of Fujairah Culture & Media Authority, H.E Abdulla Al Kamali, Executive Director of People of Determination Sector at Zayed Higher Organization and Dr. Fatima Al-Dhahmani, Head of the Tolerance and Coexistence Department at Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities.

During the session, H.E Nasser Al Yammahi emphasized the critical role of modern media in preserving national identity and fostering social integration, stating that young people today face significant challenges due to the overwhelming flow of information on digital platforms. He highlighted:
“Establishing national media platforms that reflect the values of Emirati society and educate youth on the importance of preserving national identity is essential in the face of globalization”.
The Role of Research in Promoting Dialogue and Coexistence
Dr. Firas Habbal, President of the Center and Vice-chancellor of the Board of Trustees, reaffirmed the center’s commitment to leveraging academic research to strengthen intercultural understanding. He emphasized the vital role of youth in leading global dialogue efforts, stating:
“Empowering young people to become champions of tolerance is an investment in a more prosperous future. By equipping them with the right knowledge and tools, we can build more inclusive and understanding societies”.
Similarly, Dr. Fawaz Habbal, Director General and President of the Conference, stressed the importance of academic partnerships in finding innovative solutions for fostering tolerance and coexistence, adding:
“Sustaining dialogue among civilizations requires continuous commitment from academic and community institutions. Our role is to provide a platform that brings together researchers and decision-makers to drive this agenda forward”.

Key Recommendations for Strengthening Global Tolerance
The conference concluded with a set of strategic recommendations focused on integrating tolerance and coexistence into educational curricula to raise awareness among young people about the importance of dialogue and cultural openness. The recommendations also emphasized:
- Launching youth-led initiatives to promote cross-cultural dialogue through digital platforms and modern media.
- Strengthening academic collaborations between universities and international organizations to develop more effective strategies for spreading values of coexistence and tolerance.
Participants highlighted the UAE’s role as a global model for promoting tolerance and coexistence, commending its efforts in fostering cultural integration and enhancing international cooperation. They emphasized that these initiatives align with the UAE’s vision of building a cohesive society based on dialogue, respect, and mutual understanding.
