The Efficacy Of Honey As Antibacterial And Ulcer Healing Agent

Conference: 4th International Conference In Prophetic Medicine Research

Abstract

Honey has long been valued in prophetic medicine and modern science for its diverse health benefits. Among its most studied properties are its antibacterial activity and its effectiveness in promoting the healing of gastric ulcers. Traditional ulcer treatments often come with side effects and limited efficacy, prompting a shift toward natural alternatives. One such remedy is raw honey, particularly Manuka honey, which offers strong antibacterial and antioxidant properties that support ulcer healing.

Studies have shown that honey is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Helicobacter pylori, the primary bacterium responsible for stomach ulcers. In many cases, honey demonstrated a greater inhibitory effect than commonly used antibiotics, especially against Gram-negative strains such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella, and Enterobacter spp.

Furthermore, a synergistic effect was observed when honey was combined with standard antimicrobial agents, leading to improved outcomes and reduced bacterial resistance. This research highlights the potential of healing with honey as a complementary therapy in managing bacterial infections and gastric ulcers. The presentation focuses on the scientific evidence supporting the benefits of honey, with particular reference to our published data.
