Crown Prince of Fujairah Honored as “The leading Arab personality in sustainability” by the Arab League

Cairo – May 22, 2025 – The Arab League honored H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, with the prestigious title of “Arab Sustainability Leader” during the 2025 Arab Sustainability Day ceremony held at the League’s headquarters in Cairo. The recognition was awarded in appreciation of His Highness’s active role in advancing sustainability principles and supporting development goals across the Arab region.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, emphasized the importance of Arab nations working toward a balanced integration of environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainable development, particularly amid increasing regional challenges.

Dr. Nada Al-Ajizi, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the League, noted that Arab Sustainability Day serves as a key platform to highlight national and regional efforts in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, encouraging cross-border knowledge exchange and innovation.

Delivering the keynote speech, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Al Sharqi expressed pride in receiving the honor and affirmed that sustainability is no longer an option, but an urgent necessity. His Highness stated:

“In a world of rapid change, we share a collective responsibility to implement best environmental practices and pursue sustainable development across vital sectors that directly impact human well-being”.

He also highlighted the UAE’s unwavering commitment to placing sustainability at the core of its national strategies, identifying it as a key pillar of economic growth, community stability, and environmental empowerment. His Highness praised the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, in embedding sustainability within the emirate’s long-term development vision, particularly in strategic sectors such as mining, maritime energy, and marine environmental protection.

During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements between the Emirate of Fujairah and the Arab League. He also honored several distinguished Arab figures recognized for their contributions to environmental and sustainability initiatives.
