Dear Organising Committee of the Sharjah International Conference on AI & Linguistics,
I am reaching out to bring to your attention significant concerns regarding one of your speakers, Mr. Hazem Ali, whose background and claims appear to be fabricated.
On his LinkedIn profile, Mr. Ali claims to have received an honorary doctorate from Harvard University. However, Harvard publicly lists all recipients of honorary degrees on their official website, and Mr. Ali’s name is conspicuously absent from this list.
Further, Mr. Ali states that he has been affiliated with MIT as a PhD student since 2019. Upon investigation, no record of Mr. Ali or any faculty supervision for him exists at MIT. Additionally, there are no publications or contributions by him in any recognized conferences, which is unusual for someone pursuing doctoral-level research at a prestigious institution.
Mr. Ali also claims to lead a company developing large language models that supposedly rival those of major players like OpenAI and Anthropic. However, a review of his company’s website reveals that it had no team listed until very recently; it now shows four members, all of whom appear to be non-existent and made-up. Furthermore, his company lacks transparency in both its origins and its business operations, with the address listed in the U.S. being unverifiable. Notably, Mr. Ali’s “developed” models appear to rely heavily on open-source tools and APIs from established AI companies, rather than proprietary technology.
Given this information, I wanted to inquire about the criteria used for vetting speakers for your event. It is concerning that Mr. Ali may be using his participation in your conference to pursue investment opportunities under false pretenses, potentially damaging the integrity of the event.
Please let me know if I can provide further information or assist with clarifying any details regarding this matter.
Thank you for your attention to this issue.
