At the outset, it’s worth noting that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made remarkable progress in the fields of innovation and research and development (R&D) under the guidance of their visionary leadership.
Now, let’s delve into the essential components of the GII report:
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the GII Report:
A. Overall KPI: This encompasses both Input KPIs and Output KPIs.
B. Input KPIs: There are five of these, including Institutions, Human Capital and Research, Infrastructure, Market Sophistication, and Business Sophistication.
C. Output KPIs: These consist of two, namely Knowledge and Technology Outputs, and Creative Outputs.
Now, let’s focus on the pages within the report that are of particular significance to the UAE:
Page 18: This page reveals the UAE’s overall KPI ranking, placing 2nd in the Northern African and Western Region.
Page 19: Here, you’ll find the UAE’s overall KPI ranking at 32nd in the world, making it the top-ranked country among Arab nations.
Page 58: This page provides a comprehensive view of the UAE’s Overall KPI, Input KPIs, and Output KPIs.
However, the most crucial page for the UAE within the report is undoubtedly:

On this page, all KPIs and Sub-KPIs are presented, allowing us to discern our strengths and areas that require improvement. Notable highlights include:
In the Input KPI, under the category of Institutions (1.3.2: Entrepreneurship Policies and Culture), the UAE is globally ranked first.
In terms of areas for improvement, within the Output KPI of Knowledge and Technology Outputs (6.1: Knowledge Creation), the UAE ranks 96th worldwide.
