Abstract
Purpose: This research project examines the socio, environmental and economic impact of a 4-day work week on an organization’s outcomes, focusing on workplace sustainability practices.
Methodology: Interviews were conducted with both managers and employees to gather primary data on sustainable workplace practices and perceptions of 4-day work week productivity.
Implications: Recommendations are proposed to address challenges observed during the implementation of the sustainable work practices associated with the new system.
Findings: While the social impact was positive, the economic impact was negative. Employee perspectives varied, suggesting that productivity remains subjective. The environmentally sustainable work practices linked to the shift showed unclear results due to difficulties in measurement.
Originality: This research applies the three pillars of sustainability to evaluate the Sustainable Week initiative in a Sharjah-based organization. It is the first regional study exploring whether a 4-day work week is more productive while aligning with broader workplace sustainability goals.
