Abstract
The importance of assessing and teaching functional life skills for learners with Autism Spectrum Disorders cannot overstated. Aside from communication, skills that lead to independence are of the highest priority in the life of a person with Autism Spectrum Disorders. All too often the assessments and curricula used to guide the skill acquisition programming for learners with autism is based on very early language and conceptual skills development such as the ABLLS-R and VB-MAPP. We know from years of published data that the only way to increase the much-needed life-long skills of independence is to assess and teach these skills sets early and often. This training will present information on the assessment and teaching of functional life skills
